Smart phones drive Vodafone Ireland’s Q4 growth

2010 has been a remarkable year of success for Vodafone Ireland, especially the Q4. The sales were at their premium in last quarter. The driving factor for the massive sales remained the smart phones and mobile broadband packages.

The company had a phenomenal growth, thanks to the 34,000 net additions in Q4. This has lead to 2.217 registered mobile users in 2010 as compared to 2.124 million last year. Vodafone Ireland in December reached a total subscriber figure of 2.4 million counting the operator’s fixed line and DSL businesses.

Every second device sold by the company was a smart phone. And this was mainly dominated by the popular Apple iPhone or the latest smart phone Google Nexus one and similar Google based Android handsets. The company quoted that the mobile quarterly minutes of use (MOU) per customer grew 5% year-on-year.

It reached to 273 minutes in 4Q 10’. Cellco, announced that data traffic increased nearly by 5% in the fourth quarter, thanks to the unfortunate weather conditions experienced in the country forcing a large part of the population to work from home during December. Overall, average income per user (ARPU) fell by 6.9% to EUR 34.90 (USD41.8) a month.

Cellco also declared the launch of their new device ‘Sure Signal’, in another two weeks. This femto cell will boost 3G signal coverage within, using a fixed line broadband connection to create required network in case of fragile or no signal. This will solve the problems of many of the Vodafone customers which are facing trouble with signal in the indoors and this will surely increase their customer base as well.

Since many consumers want to shift to a mobile network for their Broadband purpose but cannot due to the network. But this new device which costs less than EUR100 will make many of the consumers shift to Vodafone from their regular Home Broadband.
